Fatmage

Fatmage is a webcomic about the adventures of an overweight wizard, involving themes such as body image, gender identity, love, loss, eating disorders, etc.

I started this project toward the end of 2019, because I had this Fatmage character in the back of my mind and I really wanted to create a webcomic.

First, I drew a storyboard using pencil and paper, this was finished by March 2021. Then I scanned the storyboard, retraced the outlines and added colors, using GIMP and a small Wacom Intuos tablet. Matt Kap helped me with the English translations and took care of the letters for the English version, everything else was done by myself.

By April 2023 the project was finished and published to fatmage.com and Webtoon Canvas.

I built the website using a Python/Jinja2 script and some HTML templates. The script is also able to convert images from GIMP XCF or Photoshop PSD to PNG, and reformat the panels for Webtoon Canvas.

The finished webcomic has 22 chapters, in total containing 252 hand-drawn panels. It is available for free in both German and English language, see links above.
